Honor Band Page

If you have made honor band this year, you need to check this page. I will be posting information as to what you need to do here.  There are two main events that are involved in the District IV Honor Band.  The first is a rehearsal that happens on Saturday, January 12th 2008, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM.  This is at Dutchtown Middle School in our band room.

The second event is the Honor Band weekend itself, which happens January 17-19th at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. For the two nights of the Honor Band Weekend we will be staying overnight at the Landmark Inn in Hammond.  We will leave on the 17th at 1:45 PM, so the students should go home and get their things and come back by this time.  We will be riding a bus to Hammond, and all students going to honor band are required to ride the bus. This bus will also be used to transport us around Hammond during the honor band weekend.  Below is the itinerary for the honor band weekend.

11:00                          Concert

The students will put on a concert at the Music Building at Southeastern on Saturday the 19th.  Students will need to be picked up by their parents at the Landmark Inn in Hammond before 8:00 AM on Saturday the 19th.  At this time, the parents will transport their own children to the concert. The concert starts at 11:00 AM and should last about an hour. After that the Honor Band Members are released to their parents. Below is a map and directions to both the Holiday Inn as well as to the SLU Music Building where the concert will be held.

Both of these events are required for participation in Honor Band. If you have any reason that you will not be able to attend, you need to let me know now, so that an alternate from another school may take your position.

The band will pay most of the motel room cost and transportation for all students that have made honor band.  Due to the large number that have made honor band this year, it will be necessary to charge a $30.00 fee to each student to help with the hotel and bus cost.  Students need to bring money for 5 meals on this trip.  There will also be a t-shirt for sale to the Honor Band Members that the students usually wish to purchase.  These are $10.00

We will need parent chaperones on this trip.  The band will pay for those rooms, but I need those parents to help stay with the students during this event.  Please call or email me if you can be with us during the Honor Band Weekend.

There are a couple of rules for honor band that you need to be aware of.  First, no students shall be in the hotel room of a student of the opposite sex at any time, unless a chaperone is present. Violation of this will result in the student being sent home from the honor band at that time.  By district rule and the hotel rules, curfew will be at 10:00 PM and lights out at 11:00 PM each night.

Directions to Landmark Inn in Hammond, coming from I-12.  Exit at I-55 south, take the first exit which will be US 51 North.  The motel will be on the left after re-crossing I-12. Click here for a printable map. This map is still marked Holiday Inn because it used to be a Holiday Inn before Landmark took it over.

Directions to SLU Music Building.  Take I-12 to I-55 North, exit on University BlvdWardline Rd. exit and go right. Go about 2 miles to General Pershing and take a right.  Go two blocks to Western Ave and take that to the left.  The Music Bldg. will be on the left in a parking circle.
