Honor
Band Page If you have made honor band this year, you need to check this
page. Congratulations on being selected for District IV Honor Band. Here is some information that you need to
be aware of. There are two main events that are involved in the District IV
Honor Band. The first is a rehearsal
that happens on Saturday, January 7th 2012, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, at the
Dutchtown Middle School band room. The second event is the Honor Band Weekend itself, which
happens January 12-14th at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. For
the two nights of the Honor Band Weekend we will be staying overnight in
Hammond at the Quality Inn and Conference Center 2000 South Morrison
Boulevard, Hammond, LA, US, 70403. We leave on the 12th after school at about
2:30 PM by bus, and the students will put on a concert at the Music Building
at Southeastern at 11:00 AM on Saturday the 14th. All students will need to be picked up by
their parents at the hotel at 8:00 AM on that Saturday and transported to the
concert. This will end the events of the weekend. Both of these events are required for participation
in Honor Band. If you have any reason that you will not be able to attend,
you need to let me know now, so that an alternate from another school may
take your position. The band will pay a good portion of the motel room cost
and transportation for all students that have made honor band. There is a fee of $55.00 that each student
must pay to attend the honor band. This covers part of the cost of hotel, bus
and includes your honor band T Shirt.
Students will also need to bring about $35.00 each for meals on the
trip. We will need parent chaperones on this trip. The band will pay for those rooms, but I
need those parents to help stay with the students during this event. Please call or email me if you can be with
us during the Honor Band Weekend. I
need you to detach and turn in the permission slip below with your honor band
fee so your child can participate in the Honor Band. Make a note on the form if you are able to
chaperone this trip. Please note the student’s shirt size on the form. There are a couple of
rules for honor band that you need to be aware of. First, no students shall be in the hotel
room of a student of the opposite sex at any time, unless a chaperone is
present. Violation of this will result in the student being sent home from
the honor band at that time. By
district rule and the hotel rules, curfew will be at 10:00 PM and lights out
at 11:00 PM each night Directions to SLU Music Building. Take I-12 to I-55 North, exit on Directions to the Quality Inn. Coming from I 12 the best
way to get to the hotel is to exit at I-55 south and take the first exit
which is US 51 North. This looks weird on a map, but you will have to trust
me. US 51 loops back over I 12, and
the hotel will be on the left after crossing the interstate. If at any time during the weekend you need
to know where we are, call my cell at 225-405-7234. Students for the Honor Band weekend will need to bring a
portable music stand and their DMS band uniform like we wear for our
concerts. All the band students will
be in whatever uniform their school wears for the concert. Dress for rehearsals is casual. Below is the time
