This site contains information about the Dutchtown Middle
School Band Program located in Geismar,
Louisiana. This website will be useful
for current members of the band, as well as prospective members, and members
of the community that are interested
in what is happening with the Dutchtown Middle School Band. Our
Spring Concert and Awards Program was held
Tuesday, May 15 and was very nice. If
you want to hear it again, go to the sounds page and
listen. Summer
Band Camp and private lessons. There are a couple of good summer band
camps in the area and I would like to encourage you to attend one or both of
them. I will put links to the
information below. Dutchtown High Band
will offer private lessons this summer.
Email Ms. Bell at Sheily.bell@apsb.org
if you are interested. Please send her
your contact phone and what instrument you play. Incoming
6th grade students for this fall can begin signing up for band
now. The letter that will be passed out this week to students at DPS and
Spanish Lake can be seen by clicking here. There is a form that should be turned in at
your school. That form can be seen by clicking here. State
Festival Results: It is always a
bit difficult to explain when our ratings are not as high as we wanted, but I
wanted to say this: We had a great year, I thought the band played well all year, and we had
a few things that were as not as good as we wanted at State. I am very proud of all of the students that
participated this year. The Symphonic Band received
excellent ratings from all judges on our stage performance and a superior
rating in sightreading. Our stage performance recording is now up
on the Sounds page. Go there and
listen if you could not hear it at State. We
held our Solo and Ensemble event at DMS on Saturday, April 21. Most everyone was well prepared and there
were more superior ratings given than I can ever remember. Congratulations to those that performed. Here are the ratings. Our
Symphonic Band performed at District Festival on March 27th. The band received superior ratings from all
judges and will go to LMEA State Band Festival on Wednesday, May 2nd. New:
Here is the Letter and Permission Slip
for State Band Festival. This must be
turned in by April 20th in order to attend the trip. A recording of our performance at District
is posted on the sounds page. Go there and listen if
you were not able to go with us. Our
Pre-Festival Concert was successful.
Please go to the Sounds page to hear it if you were not able to
attend. Solo
and Ensemble Festival is set for Saturday, April 21 at the DMS Band
room. 6th grade students
are eligible if selected and all Symphonic Band students are expected to
participate. The letter and entry
forms are here and here. The
Band Room will be open after school most days for extra help if
needed. We are conducting Clarinet and
Sax classes, and will be starting Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn and Tuba for 6th
graders soon. Check the band Calender. Our
Annual Christmas Concert was very good. If you missed it, or want to hear
it again, you can listen to a recording at the Sounds
page. Practice charts are due on Mondays for all band members. This is part of the band grade. If you have lost your practice chart, you may go to the Band Forms page and print as many as you like. This page also has many other useful forms that you may need for band. Email list: Please complete and turn in the back page of the band handbook. I need your email to compile an email list. I will email important band notifications to those that are on the list. You may email me at Richard.bresowar@apsb.org to get on the list. If you are a 7th grader in Symphonic band, or an 8th grader playing in Symphonic Band for the first time, you will need the formal concert band uniform which is white pants, white shoes, white socks, and our purple band shirt. If you have a waist size above 26” we have white pants in stock in the band room and these are for sale for $25.00. White shoes can be tennis shoes and are available at any shoe or department store. Band shirts are $10.00 if you don’t still have the one from 6th grade band. If you are smaller than 26” waist, please try to find some white pants. White work pants or Dickies are acceptable. Pants must be full length and not cargo style. Sometimes you can find these at uniform shops. I have done up a little tutorial on how to get and use Audacity for recording tests on your computer. I hope you find it useful. Click here to read. You can use this program to record sound and save as .mp3 files to send via email. Recorded tests may also be recorded on IPhone and emailed to me. Please change the file name to something with the students name in it. Why Learn Music? Interested in some good reasons why we do what we do? Click here.
